Can I hook up to more than one computer?
If you would like more than basic installation to one computer, consider Shared Internet for more staff or members of the family to run computers independently. Each can have his or her own Email account, favorites and work habits. We can now even share internet wirelessly up to 800 feet from your base unit. In some situations, wiring is a good enough option.
Do these functions work with internet over satellite?
HTTP or standard web pages, work best of all as they are optimized and accelerated to function at a rate close to DSL speeds. Use of programs like Front Page for Web Publishing work very well in general.
VPN or Virtual Private Networking is capable of working over Satellite, but is not nearly as fast as other services such as web browsing. It is known to work and be useable, but is not guaranteed as a Service by Hughes.
SSL or Secure Web Pages occasionally misbehave for certain sites, but typically this behavior is consistent with some problem at those sites and if you initially have no problem, it will continue this way.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Used for publishing websites and file transfers in general is slower in transmission than reception, so please check which level of service you subscribe to!
IM CHAT Etc There is a slight delay in the transmission and reception that one can get used to, especially as the service operates line at a time rather than one character at a time.
VIDEO CONFERENCE if you have seen journalists talking over a satellite link, this is what to expect! It works but may be unsatisfactory due to the delay in signals out and back via the satellite.
